A note on our interpretation: Verse 1 is meant to depict the present, as Bilbo might have sung the song in Rivendell to Frodo. Verse 2 is meant to depict the past, as the instrumental comes in and we enter Bilbo’s memory, as it were. Verse 3 is meant to depict the future Bilbo, old and looking back upon life. We thought this analogous approach to the text fit in well with the meaning of the text. We hope you like it! We are unable to get permission to sell this song so we are posting it here free for your enjoyment. If you want a copy of the mp3, we are offering it to those who support us on Patreon! My brother composed and arranged the piece. My family sang it. Please no bad language in the comments. We want this to be family friendly:) Thank you! Lyrics: I sit beside the fire and think of all that I have seen of meadow-flowers and butterflies in summers that have been; Of yellow leaves and gossamer in autumns that there were, with morning mist and silver sun and wind upon my hair. I sit beside the fire and think of how the world will be when winter comes without a spring that I shall ever see. For still there are so many things that I have never seen: in every wood in every spring there is a different green. I sit beside the fire and think of people long ago and people who will see a world that I shall never know. But all the while I sit and think of times there were before, I listen for returning feet and voices at the door.
