Bach - Vater unser im Himmelreich

Bach - Vater unser im Himmelreich
Johann Sebastian Bach - Vater unser in Himnelreich "Vater unser im Himmelreich" (Our Father in Heaven) is a Lutheran hymn in German by Martin Luther. He wrote the paraphrase of the Lord's Prayer in 1538, corresponding to his explanation of the prayer in his Kleiner Katechismus (Small Catechism). He dedicated one stanza to each of the seven petitions and framed it with an opening and a closing stanza, each stanza in six lines. Luther revised the text several times, as extant manuscript show, concerned to clarify and improve it. He chose and possibly adapted an older anonymous melody, which was possibly associated with secular text, after he had first selected a different one. Other hymn versions of the Lord's Prayer from the 16th and 20th-century have adopted the same tune, known as "Vater unser" and "Old 112th". The hymn was published in Leipzig in 1539 in Valentin Schumann's hymnal Gesangbuch, with a title explaining "The Lord's Prayer briefly expounded and turned into metre". It was likely first published as a broadsheet. The hymn was translated into English in several versions, for example "Our Father, Thou in Heaven Above" by Catherine Winkworth in 1863 and "Our Father, Lord of Heaven and Earth" by Henry J. de Jong in 1982. In the current German hymnal Evangelisches Gesangbuch (EG) it is number 344. For more: https://ift.tt/1hjos7X

How to Play Dialect RPG | How To Game with Becca Scott
Dialect is an RPG about language and how it dies. In this game, you’ll tell the story of the Isolation by building their language. New words will come from the fundamental aspects of the community: who they are, what they believe in, and how they respond to a changing world. Players take away both the story they’ve told and the dialect they’ve built together. Good Time Society is a group of friends creating board game tutorials, reviews, podcasts, sketches, and more, created by Becca Scott (@thebeccascott), Jake Michels (@thejakemichels), and our friends! The Funeral of a Great Myth (of Popular Evolution) by C.S. Lewis Doodle

The Funeral of a Great Myth (of Popular Evolution) by C.S. Lewis Doodle
C.S. Lewis on Evolution: This is his academic banquet - a 6 course argument. If you want an enjoyable, but take-away version, see: https://youtu.be/8t0UDoKImBs Notes: (1:17) Lewis echoes a famous Shakespearean phrase “Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears; I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.” The speech curiously, brilliantly does the opposite and enrages the Roman crowd against Caesar's conspirators. (3:43) There was a drought on one of the Galapagos Islands, it is thought that due to this event the average finch beak size became larger. However, this proved not to be the end of the story. When the drought stopped, average finch beak size became smaller again. (8:03) Wagner's myth: see Lewis’ essay 'The World’s Last Night' for more on this aspect. (9:48) Did atheists search all of creation to find some part of God’s creation where change could be considered "self-improving" & then attribute the whole creation to this process in order to remove God from His own creation? This would be like attributing the iphone not to Steve Jobs or Apple, but to the self-improving AI technology embedded within the iphone's camera function or saying that the process that makes your cousins' family tall or short, is the same process that made humanity. Darwin found one such aspect in animal breeding. Humans have long known (Genesis 31.5-12,38-41) that man can breed certain traits in herds to increase height, fat quantity, or milk capacity & remove defects by slaughtering weak or deformed offspring. He does this by breeding strong animals with the strong, and healthy with the healthy. And this was seen in human reproduction as well. Obvious if you remove the shepherd from breeding, you get a lot more weak animals in the population. Darwin found if you remove man, only a remnant of the animal population will be strong, & the weak and defective will not so easily survive so long or out run predators etc. Here, Darwin found a part of God's creation may result in minor “self-improvement”, & which, he theorised, if expanded exponentially, could explain, not just minor change, but CREATIVE change and brand new function. (12:26) The actual theorem of evolution makes no metaphysical statements, i.e. statements about whether there is a God beyond Nature. (13:56) “Sidereal”(from Latin: ‘stars’) i.e. the distant stars (the constellations or fixed stars, not the sun or planets). (15:05) Molecular Biology has progressed since 1944, they show evolution of even one useful individual DNA protein is so unlikely as to be impossible: “It’s easy to see that the total number of possible sequences is immense. It’s easy to believe (although non-chemists must take their colleagues’ word for it) that the subset of USEFUL sequences—sequences that create real, usable proteins—is, in comparison, tiny. But we must know how immense and how tiny. The total count of possible 150-link chains, where each link is chosen separately from 20 amino acids, is 20 to the power of 150. In other words, many. 20 to the power of 150 roughly equals 10 to the power of 195, & there are only 10 to the power of 80 atoms in the universe” (Giving up Darwin, David Gelernter). (23:30) New Humanist Paul More’s insight into the "enormous error" of secular humanists was that when the religious impulse is replaced by "mere 'brotherhood of man,' fratricide is not far distant." (24:01) "How has it come about that we use the highly emotive word 'stagnation', with all its malodorous & malarial overtones, for what other ages would have called 'permanence'? Why does the word 'primitive' at once suggest to us clumsiness, inefficiency, barbarity?" ('De Descriptione Temporum'). See also the 'Poison of Subjectivism' on the use of the word "stagnation". (29:33) For "the nation", I’ve shown a communist board, which is essentially a violent mob which took undemocratic control of the whole Russian nation, but I could have shown a violent mob of any sort. The contrast in the doodle is between a lawless ‘Minority Violent mob’ & a 'Majority Rule Democracy’ & rule of law. (33:33) "For I take it there are two things the imagination loves to do. It loves to embrace its object completely, to take it in at a single glance & see it as something harmonious, symmetrical & self-explanatory. That is the classical imagination: the Parthenon was built for it. It also loves to lose itself in a labyrinth, to surrender to the inextricable [impossible to disentangle]. That is the romantic imagination: the Orlando Furioso was written for it. But Christian Theology does not cater very well for either" ('Is theology Poetry?').

A note on our interpretation: We wanted to be as literal to the book as possible with this song. In the book, Sam was searching for Frodo in the tower of Cirith Ungol, but couldn't find him. Overcome with frustration and grief, he sank to the floor right beneath where Frodo lay imprisoned. The song starts with Sam singing an old song of Bilbo's from his childhood. He then feels a strange inner strength fill him and he sings his own original song. Frodo hears him singing below and weakly sings along at one point in the song. Sam hears Frodo singing as he stops, but then hears footsteps approaching... We are unable to get permission to sell this song so we are posting it here free for your enjoyment. If you want a copy of the mp3, we are offering it to those who support us on Patreon! My brother composed and arranged the piece. My family sang it. Please no bad language in the comments. We want this to be family friendly:) Thank you! Lyrics: Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way In western lands beneath the Sun the flowers may rise in Spring, the trees may bud, the waters run, the merry finches sing. Or there maybe 'tis cloudless night and swaying beeches bear the Elven-stars as jewels white amid their branching hair. Though here at journey's end I lie in darkness buried deep, beyond all towers strong and high, beyond all mountains steep, above all shadows rides the Sun and Stars for ever dwell: I will not say the Day is done, nor bid the Stars farewell.

We are very grateful for your support of our music! https://ift.tt/2gzQx1D Here is our version of J.R.R. Tolkien's poem, "The Battle of Sauron and Finrod Felagund!" We have been working on this for several months. We hope you enjoy it:). Help support our channel! Please check out our new merchandise! Get our logo on shirts, mugs, phone cases and more! https://goo.gl/552Hev Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ClamaviDe A note on our interpretation: The song on which this piece is based is taken from Chapter 19 of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Silmarillion. The chief feature of the piece is the back-and-forth sensation created by the movement from a ‘Sauron’ theme in the beginning to a series of heroic Elven themes and then back to Sauron themes at the end. This back-and-forth movement represents the battle between Sauron, the lieutenant of Morgoth, and Finrod Felagund, the king of the Noldor, shortly before Finrod’s death. The initial Sauron theme, impressing the feel of the dungeons of the Necromancer, is met by determined Elven resistance that is eventually entirely overcome. The poem represents the fall of Finrod to Sauron in many ways, the most obvious of which is Finrod’s losing the battle, a battle, remarkably, of song. It is noteworthy, however, that Finrod is subjugated by Sauron in the tower called Tol-in-Gaurhoth, Island of Werewolves. This tower was built by Finrod himself, who called it Minas Tirith, Tower of Guard, since it was built to guard the pass of the River Sirion, but it was taken by Sauron for Morgoth. This makes it Sauron’s original Dark Tower, acquired by theft and mutilation, a den of wolves and vampires. Sauron’s mutilation of things high and beautiful and Elven is one of the recurring musical features of the piece. Another element of interest is the thought represented by the Elven interludes between the verses of the poem. The words sung are: “Nai hiruvalyë Valimar. Nai elyë hiruva. Namárië! Sí man i yulma nin enquantuva? Sí vanwa ná, Rómello vanwa, Valimar!” These are taken from the famous lament for Valimar sung by Galadriel in Lothlorien in the Fellowship of the Ring. They are translated, first: “Maybe thou shalt find Valimar. Maybe even thou shalt find it. Farewell!” And then, “Who now shall refill the cup for me? Now lost, lost to those from the East is Valimar!” They help to communicate, first, the sensation that Valimar and its power, a power that Finrod invokes in vain one last time, have been lost by the Noldor through the Doom of Mandos, and, second, the link between Finrod and Galadriel, his sister, both at the moment of his fall, and much later, in a different age of the world, in memory. We greatly appreciate our viewers and thank you all for your support of our music! We are unable to get permission to sell this song so we are posting it here free for your enjoyment. If you want a copy of the mp3, we are offering it to those who support us on Patreon! My brothers composed and arranged this piece. My family sang it. Artwork by: Michael Howe https://ift.tt/39AC3L6 Please no bad language in the comments. We want this to be family friendly:) Thank you! Lyrics: The Battle of Sauron and Finrod Felagund He chanted a song of wizardry, Of piercing, opening, of treachery, Revealing, uncovering, betraying. Then sudden Felagund there swaying, Sang in a song of staying, Resisting, battling against power, Of secrets kept, strength like a tower, And trust unbroken, freedom, escape; Of changing and shifting shape, Of snares eluded, broken traps, The prison opening, the chain that snaps. Nai hiruvalyë Valimar. Nai elyë hiruva. Namárië! Sí man i yulma nin enquantuva? Sí vanwa ná, Rómello vanwa, Valimar! Backwards and forwards swayed their song. Reeling foundering, as ever more strong The chanting swelled, Felagund fought, And all the magic and might he brought Of Elvenesse into his words. Softly in the gloom they heard the birds Singing afar in Nargothrond, The sighting of the Sea beyond, Beyond the western world, on sand, On sand of pearls on Elvenland. Nai hiruvalyë Valimar. Rómello vanwa, Valimar! Then in the doom gathered; darkness growing In Valinor, the red blood flowing Beside the Sea, where the Noldor slew The Foamriders, and stealing drew Their white ships with their white sails From lamplit havens. The wind wails, The wolf howls. The ravens flee. The ice mutters in the mouths of the Sea. The captives sad in Angband mourn. Thunder rumbles, the fires burn- And Finrod fell before the throne.

The Holy Bible - Luke Chapter 2 (KJV)

The Holy Bible - Luke Chapter 2 (KJV)
Luke Chapter 2: 1And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. 2(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) 3And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. 4And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) 5To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. 6And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. 8And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. 12And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. 15And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. 16And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. 17And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. 18And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. 19But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. 20And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them. 21And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb. 22And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord; 23(As it is written in the law of the LORD, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;) 24And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons. 25And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. 26And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. 27And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, 28Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, 29Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: 30For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, 31Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; 32A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. 33And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him. 34And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; 35(Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. 1541 Cranach Bible

1541 Cranach Bible
Using pieces from “Martin Luther: Art and the Reformation” the Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison, president of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, teaches interesting and important facts about the Reformation. The 500th anniversary of the Reformation provides an excellent opportunity to recall and learn the importance of Luther’s teachings on the truth of God’s love for people by grace alone, by faith alone, by Scripture alone, through Christ alone. Luther translated the Bible into German, because he believed that the Bible is the cradle in which Christ lies. He sought to make the Scriptures available and understandable for all people. Luther’s translation led to the King James Bible in 1611.

Mary Weahkee makes a turkey feather blanket

Mary Weahkee makes a turkey feather blanket
Mary Weahkee, an archaeologist for the State of New Mexico, was commissioned by the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture in Santa Fe to re-create the ancient craft of making a blanket from thousands of turkey feathers, for an upcoming exhibit. In this video, captured over a period of many months, she demonstrates every step in the process from making yucca cordage from narrow-leaf yucca leaves, to the final weaving process. The video was recorded and edited by John Sadd for the museum. You can see many other videos of Native American art and craft demonstrations from MIAC by searching IndianArtsAndCulture on YouTube.

Is Culture Threatening the Family? Can Family and the Current Culture Coexist?

He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame, and a Master of Theological Studies Degree from the University of Dallas. He has appeared as a guest on numerous international Catholic radio programs, and is the host or co-host of several popular series on the Eternal Word Television Network. He is a member of the Fellowship of Catholic Scholars and the Confraternity of Catholic Clergy. Most importantly, Deacon Harold is married to his lovely wife, Colleen, and they have four beautiful children. Dn Harold's website www.deaconharold.com Dn Harold's article on the Christian response to racism https://ift.tt/3hrf3Q1 Can Christians support BLM? https://ift.tt/3aEiHTM https://ift.tt/2E8JFXY We need to see past stereotypes and see people. We need to see past stereotypes and, instead, see the image and likeness of God in each other. We should stop supporting media, individuals, and organizations that create, encourage, and perpetuate racist stereotypes, or who propose violence as a solution. Racist ideologies create images that leave negative impressions on susceptible and vulnerable minds and hearts, especially those of children. Reach out with compassion to those of different races and hear their stories, respond with empathy, and work with humble, contrite hearts to build bridges of understanding in order to acknowledge the unique gifts we all bring to the Body of Christ. We need to understand how police officers are trained. Go on a ride-a-long. Traditional Native American (Diné) Teachings on Positive Thinking.

Traditional Native American (Diné) Teachings on Positive Thinking.
Navajo Historian Wally Brown, teaches about the traditional view on constructive thinking vs. destructive thinking. The modern person would probably call these positive thinking vs. negative thinking. There are a lot of teachings associated with thinking. Four affirmations in the four sacred directions the first one is thinking. The others require thinking as well. There are 22 ceremonies that people still know how to perform. Some have been lost and some are perverted, the words have been changed and they have lost the original ways that they were performed. The Ceremony associated with thinking or the thought process is the beauty way. At the other end of the scale is the evil way And finally is the way of life. The fourth ceremony is missing. They don’t know that one anymore. It is thought that everyone has the ability to think . You can think to construct or you can think to destroy. Coyote only thinks for himself. And it always ends up hurting people or hurting himself in some way. Traditionally you are encouraged to think in a positive way. Ké is supposed to be what you think around... Kinship! Kinova JACO Robot Arm Review

Kinova JACO Robot Arm Review
Welcome! On this video we are doing a product review for the Kinova JACO Robot Arm. So if you want to learn how this light weight robotic arm is assisting people with upper-body disability, then please stay tuned. Robo Phil Website - http://www.robophil.com Robot Center - https://ift.tt/2xRVNX4 Hi guys! Philip English here from robophil.com. Now on this video we are looking into the Kinova Robotics - JACO Robot. Kinova is a Canadian company engaged into the design and manufacture of innovative solutions in the field of personal robotics. The team of experts at Kinova is dedicated to offer practical robotic platforms solving real and concrete problematic of daily life, especially in rehabilitation. JACO was launched in 2009, and is a six-axis robotic manipulator arm with a three-fingered hand. This little marvel of engineering significantly improves the lives of persons with reduced mobility by assisting anyone with an upper body mobility impairment to perform complex actions. JACO is named after one of the founder's uncle, who was an inventor and built an early robotic arm himself. JACO currently has two editions, JACO Rehab and JACO Research. JACO Rehab is an assistive robot arm for upper body disabled persons in power wheelchair. Its unique features will help an individual push the boundaries of their limitations, and better equip them to live in this world with its obstacles. JACO Research is the lightweight robot that sets the standard in service robotic manipulation. light, compact and power efficient , this plug-and-play manipulator paves the way for brand new robotics applications. Kinova has also recently released another robot called MICO. The little brother of JACO, which is offering a complete research solution at a much lower price. The JACO is around 25 to 30 thousand pound mark where the MICO is closer to the 15 thousand pound mark To quickly run through the specs, It's got adapted control - it could be integrated to almost all the models and configurations of power wheelchair's controls. Light-Wight - it's only 5.7 kilograms. This means that it won't affect the stability of the power wheelchair and that it will be easy to handle by those around you. Easy Installation - the arm can be easily installed onto a power wheelchair or a table as well. Once the arm has been installed, the chair's wheelbase remains the same. The Payload of the JACO - Its got a maximum load of 1.5 kilograms at mid-range and 1 kilo when fully extended, which is ideal for lifting everyday objects. Its hand, with its three flexible fingers, can easily and safely handle everyday objects. It is completely weatherproof so it can be used inside or outside. Resistant to the same conditions as the power wheelchair. Its Carbon fiber structure makes the product extremely strong and light-weight. It has low energy consumption. It is directly powered by the battery of the motorized wheelchair. Once connected, it only consumes about the same energy as a light bulb. The reach of the JACO is 90 centimeters. When installed into the motorized wheelchair, it can pick up an object from the floor or it can reach an object from a high shelf. Silent and Discreet, Its fluid and precise movements are almost completely silent, thus ensuring a remarkable discretion. Now for the research around JACO. The JACO arm has been put through trials with eight persons aged 7 to 21 years old. Clinical observations were made during the sessions of familiarization, control skills and daily life activity situations. Results of the study reveal that when the robotic arm was used, for an average of 22 different situations, 70 percent of the time, the accomplishment level of the life habits reached to a level of "No Human Assistance Required". Dancing Priest Does Hamilton | CHURCH PARODY | "You'll Be Back"

Dancing Priest Does Hamilton | CHURCH PARODY | "You'll Be Back"
Social distancing got you missing church? You'll be back! Our priest's parody of the hit Hamilton song turns King George's threat into a joyful promise. To all who miss worship, fellowship, and--yes!--Communion at your churches, just remember: we will get back together even better than we ever were before. Da da dat daa! #episcopal #coronavirus #hamilton #church #youllbeback #communion #dancingpriest #stannestifton #dioga LYRICS: These days we can't get together and church doesn't quite feel the same. We sigh, and we long for the day when we'll kneel down and pray side by side. It's true, we know, we're more than a building but assembling would make us feel fine. Our worship's online, but Facebook and YouTube can't give you the Bread and the Wine. You'll be back. Wait and see. Just remember how it used to be. You'll be back. Time will tell when we've kicked this virus back to Hell! Oceans rise, empires fall. We have seen each other through it all. When we finally open then door, we will get back together even better than we ever were before! Da da da dat daa dat da da da daya da da da dat dat daya da! Da da da dat daa dat da da da daya da da da dat dat daa! Our church is strong thanks to God and me and you. This can't last long, and our love will see us through. And then we'll have Communion! Our favorite thing, Communion! You know you like Communion. Mystic, sweet Communion! Together. Together. Together forever amen. You'll be back with all your friends, and you'll belt out all your favorite hymns. You'll say your prayers and pass the peace even with the ones you like the least. So wash your hands and just stay well so you'll be here when we ring the bell. When we finally open then door, we will get back together even better than we ever were before. Da da da dat daa dat da da da daya da da da dat dat daya da! Da da da dat daa dat da da da daya da da da dat dat daa! Everybody! Da da da dat daa dat da da da daya da dat dat daya da! Da da da dat daa dat da da da daya da dat dat daya daa. Written and performed by the Rev. Lonnie Lacy, St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Tifton, GA. Based on "You'll Be Back" from Hamilton, the original musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Gifted: A 1910s Women's Summer Suit | Unboxing Edwardian Clothing | Cottagecore Fashion Inspiration
Thank you to Blair for sending me this beautiful 1910s summer suit! The soutache, the french knots are all to die for in this light blue linen suit that dates to around 1917. This simple, yet gorgeous skirt and jacket combination are what cottagecore dreams are made of, and I'm already starting to look for soutache so I can sew my own version. 😍😍 🎉Keep Watching: Victorian Haute Couture!? \\ Unboxing a SURPRISE Victorian Clothing Haul from Hello Vintage (Part 2) https://youtu.be/3R_R5KIZJS4 Unboxing a (SURPRISE!) Victorian Clothing Haul from Hello Vintage \\ Part 1of 2 https://youtu.be/QO03qVwqn3g I Bought a *REAL* Victorian Bustle Skirt & Evening Bodice! | An Unboxing Antique Clothing Haul https://youtu.be/J_cobE1GUiA The late 1910s brought the end of World War 1 and the Spanish Influenza, and though it's safe to say that 1915-1919 were *rough* - at least the fashions were 🔥. This 1910s woman's suit was sewn at home and was possibly remade from an earlier Edwardian woman's outfit. The soutache and french knots were hand-sewn with the rest of the ensemble machine sewn, with a chain stitch sewing machine (so different than the normal lockstitch sewing machine we're used to). This outfit would have been very easy to sew - with a simple skirt and unfitted jacket, and its timeless design works for the 1910s as well as the 2020s. Unpacking the Hamilton Costumes: Historical Accuracy? How to Take Liberties With Period Costume

Unpacking the Hamilton Costumes: Historical Accuracy? How to Take Liberties With Period Costume
Also. Irrelevant, but when are we going gender blind and getting a woman playing Hamilton? *I’m referring at this point to the stays in Hamilton providing a vertically flattened silhouette, eliminating bust curve in the bodice that would not have been apparent in the 18th century. This was poorly worded (‘flat front’) as stays technically were not entirely flat down the front at all; particularly as the century progressed, stays became more and more rigid down the front, the center front peaks more prominent to the point where busks were used to push the center front seam out away from the body and into a point. See for example the extant stays on pages 106 and 110 in ‘Patterns of Fashion 5’ by Janet Arnold, et al. Making Medieval Turnshoes

Making Medieval Turnshoes
These shoes are made for Medieval Combat (HMB/IMCF), which I practice. It took me about 1 week for finishing them, as it is really time-consuming, especially the sole stitching. This is the third pair I have already made, so it took me less time as I already knew how to do them. If it's your first time it can take more, there are a lot of trial&error moments. These shoes are made to be comfortable and long-lived, so they are not totally a historical reproduction. For example, I used a double sole to be easier to repair them in the future. Also, the lace is more of a modern approach than an historical way of lacing shoes. You can find a closeup of the Sole Stitching in another video: https://youtu.be/NogC1qkdzkw

Rise, ye children of salvation, All who cleave to Christ, the Head. Wake, arise, O mighty nation, Ere the Foe on Zion tread. He draws nigh and would defy All the hosts of God Most High. 2. Saints and heroes long before us Firmly o this ground have stood; See their banner waving o'er us, Conquerors through the Savior's blood. Ground we hold whereon of old Fought the faithful and the bold. 3. Fighting, we shall be victorious By the blood of Christ, our Lord; On our foreheads, bright and glorious, Shines the witness of His Word; Spear and shield on battle-field, His great name we cannot yield. 4. When His servants stand before Him, Each receiving his reward; When His saints in light adore Him, Giving glory to the Lord, "Victory!" our songs shall be Like the thunder of the sea.
