Christmas posting #2

The Christmas Service at my sister's church was delightful.  Maybe I should say "both of the Christmas Services that we went to" at my sister's church.  First, the bell choir and a piano was the musical accompaniment to the congregational hymn-singing.  The sermon was quite good, spoken through the lips of their newest pastor.  The next two services were orchestra and sanctuary choir.  The senior pastor preached.  Again, an excellent production.

This morning, Mother, Sheila, and I had the privilege of going to our own congregation.  Zion, Tomball provided a beautiful and simple celebration of God's Word made flesh for us.  The organ and the congregation provided the music.  Pastor Teichmiller's sermon was rooted in Hebrews 1:1-6.  What a gift!  God's Word of forgiveness and strengthening of faith was placed into our ears and on our tongues in Communion.  It has been perfect.

We also got to spend time with family and exchange gifts.  Christmas dinner still stands in the future.

One of the random topics for discussion is a movie we may want to see later this week, "Les Misérables." Yes, it probably is a tear jerker.  Even the reviews on http://www.myfoxhouston.com/category/239308/jakes-takes   had my eyes leaking a little bit.  There's more to it than shedding a tear or two. One of my favorite blogs also posted this information about how "Les Misérables" can show the interplay between Law and Gospel… I think it might be worth seeing!

…Schönberg’s musical of the same title which will appear in theaters on Christmas Day. In particular Horton and Zahl discuss the themes of grace and redemption as it unfolds throughout the story…

Yes, I quoted less than a sentence.  You really need to read the quick article and the referenced links.  They made the point quite well, and I don't have to.
